Pearls from the auld Scotsman
Few people know Visio software and communicate their knowledge as well as Dave Edson. In this regular column Dave dispenses pearls of wisdom in his own inimitable style.

Zooming in Visio

Visio provides built-in facilities that minimize the requirement to zoom in and out of your drawing. When you double click on a shape to edit its text attribute, Visio automatically zooms into to a greater magnification so you can easier read the text as you enter it. When the text entry is complete, Visio zooms out to resume the initial display magnification.

However, taking a closer or more distant look at your work is inevitable from time to time. There are several ways to Zoom, or change the display magnification in Visio:

  • Select percentage, last, width, or page from the dropdown menu on the toolbar.
  • Select the zoom in or zoom out icons from the toolbar.
  • Right click with the Shft and Ctrl keys pressed zooms in and left click with the same keys zooms out.
  • Holding the Shft and Ctrl keys down you can click and drag a rectangular viewing area to zoom in on.

The zoom drop-down menu is shown activated here.
The zoom out and zoom in are clearly shown just to the left of the zoom drop-down.
