Creating Paper Space in Visio

A form of Paper Space can be created in Visio using foreground and background pages.

For example, create a foreground page with a scale of ¼" = 1’ and a background page that is assigned to the foreground page with a scale of No Scale or 1 = 1.

Objects can be drawn on your background page that will appear at the same size and scale that you create them. This is useful for sheet borders, title blocks and other page dressing.

Objects drawing on the foreground sheet will be represented at  scale, which enables you to represent reasonably large objects on a drawing sheet.

¼" = 1’ scale is typically an architectural or engineering scale (soft conversion metric scale is 1:50) used for  plans and elevations of buildings and structures with an intermediate level of detail. Full building plans are normally at 1/8"=1' (1:100) and detailed room interiors are normally at ½"=1' (1:20).

Metric scale equivalents are soft conversions only and do not scale precisely to the imperial scales.
