ANSI Characters in Visio

Chris Hopkins

To add ANSI characters to text in a Visio shape, hold down the Alt key and press 0 (zero) on the keypad before you enter the number for the corresponding ANSI character. When you release the Alt key, the character will be inserted at the current position of the text cursor. If you do not press zero before the ANSI Character number, the character will not be inserted.

You can also copy and paste special characters from the Windows Character Map. Because the Character Map’s characters depend on the font you are using, make sure the Character Map is set to the same font that you are using in Visio before you copy text from it.

If you go to the trouble of looking up the Character Map to read the ANSI code for a character, you might just as well copy it in using the Character Map.
Windows Character Map shows you the characters available to you from a particular font.
