Information

IntelliCAD, IntelliCAD 98, Service Release, 1.0b

This article lists the improvements included in Service Release B for IntelliCAD 98 by Visio.

Service Release A provided increased compatibility with Autodesk AutoCAD R14.01 files and a faster screen redraw rate.

Service Release B updates versions 1.0 and 1.0a of IntelliCAD 98 to version 1.0b, and includes these enhancements and more...

Performance improvements
IntelliCAD 98 1.0b provides significant performance improvements in screen regeneration and redrawing, in opening drawings, and in loading LISP programs. You'll also notice faster zooming, panning, and saving capabilities.

Drawing Explorer enhancements
The Drawing Explorer includes the following enhancements:

  • Single-click editing. Click a setting to toggle its value or to open a dialog box associated with it.
  • Purge tool. Use the new Purge tool to eliminate unreferenced layers, linetypes, styles, blocks, and dimension styles from your drawings.
  • Viewport layer visibility control. Freeze and thaw entities on a layer for the current viewport, all viewports, or new viewports when tilemode is set to off or 0. Entities on a frozen layer do not display, print, or regenerate. Use the new single-click editing feature to change the status of a layer from frozen to thawed and back again. Support for externally referenced drawings and block layer visibility is limited in this release.
  • Layers. Use the new color swatch to identify the color of the layer you've selected. Click the color swatch to open the Color dialog box and change the color of the layer.
  • Linetypes. Look in the new Linetype Appearance column to see a visual representation of the dots, dashes, and lines that comprise a linetype.
  • Styles. Assign new text characteristics such as backward, upside down, or vertical text. Use the single-click editing feature to change these settings.
  • Coordinate Systems. Use the single-click editing feature to edit origin settings.
  • Views. Use the new View Direction setting to enter x-, y-, and z- values and quickly change the view direction. The View Direction setting replaces Center Point.
  • Blocks. The default setting is to display images. A thumbnail picture of each block appears in the right-hand pane. To see more information about a block, click the Details tool. Edit the path and the insertion point by clicking the setting and typing the changes.
  • Dimension Styles. Cut, copy, and paste dimension styles from one drawing to another. Right-click to select the dimension style and open a shortcut menu with the cut, copy, and paste commands. Or, select the dimension style and press Ctrl X, Ctrl C, or Ctrl V. These keyboard shortcuts also work with the other Drawing Explorer elements.

WinLINE plotter driver updates
Service Release B comes with an updated WinLINE plotter driver that contains several problem fixes and minor user interface changes. You will need to reinstall the WinLINE driver to take advantage of the update. For the latest information about installing and configuring the driver, see WinLINE online Help (Winline.hlp) or the Readme.txt file in \Program Files\IntelliCAD 98\Drivers\Printers on the CD.

The updated driver also includes the following new or modified features:

  • The Rainbow pen, which maps screen colors to pen colors, is now called the AutoColor pen.
  • The driver supports the assignment of pen colors using numbers in a color index ranging from 1 to 255.

The HP Laserjet (HP/GL2) selection now allows a variety of paper sizes.

Viewport layer support
Service Release B includes limited support for the Viewport Layers (VPLAYER) command. You can use the VPLAYER command to adjust the visibility of layers in viewports in the active drawing when tilemode is set to off or 0. Within the drawing, you can set layers as visible in one viewport and invisible in others. Support for externally referenced drawing and block layer visibility is limited in this release.

The Drawing Explorer can also be used to adjust visibility of layers in viewports.

AutoCAD R14 hatch display
Service Release B includes limited support for Autodesk AutoCAD R14 hatch entities. IntelliCAD 98 can now display the R14 hatch entities. You cannot edit them; however, the data transfers correctly between AutoCAD R14 and IntelliCAD 98.

Clipboard support
Now you can use the Clipboard to cut, copy, and paste entities between IntelliCAD and AutoCAD. Entities are inserted as ActiveX objects or native drawing entities.

Direct-distance functionality
Take advantage of new direct-distance functionality by pressing the Shift key when you draw lines to have them lock in the horizontal, vertical, or angular position you specify.

Microsoft Windows 98 compatibility
IntelliCAD 98 has received Windows 98 logo certification.

Online Help feature changes
Service Release B contains the following online Help enhancements:

  • A new "Dimensioning variables" topic contains information about all the dimensioning variables. Command Reference links jump from those topics to corresponding system variable topics.
  • An expanded Welcome topic includes information about IntelliCAD 98 features, how to use online Help, how to contact us with documentation suggestions, and where to find sample drawings.
