Robbie Burns' Birthday

Dave Edson is determined to round out our knowledge of everything that is important in life... and that extends well beyond programming Visio. The month of January is an ideal opportunity for us all to re-acquaint ourselves with some very fine old-world culture.

Robert Burns. Born 25th January, 1759. January 25th is the birth date of Robert Burns.

For those o’ ye who dinnae ken (don’t know) who Rabbie Burns is, I suggest tha’ ye soundly thrash yer Literature Teacher oor Professor. Rabbie Burns was simply one of the most brilliant poets e’er tae grace the printed oor spoken ward! In honour o’ his birthday, each an’ every year in Scotland as weel as many places the world o’er, a Burns' Nicht Supper is held tae feast, recite his wards an’ offer toasts tae his immortal memory!

I would like to include here the text of Auld Lang Syne, as written by Robert Burns.

Auld Lang Syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind ?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne!

For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne,
We'll take a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne!

And surely ye 'll be your pint' stowp,
And surely I 'll be mine,
And we 'll take a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne!

For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne,
We'll take a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne!

We twa hae run about the braes,
And pou'd the gowans fine,
But we 've wander'd monie a weary fit
Sin' auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne,
We'll take a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne!

We twa hae paidl'd in the burn
Frae morning sun till dine,
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
Sin' auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne,
We'll take a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne!

And there's a hand, my trusty fiere,
And gie 's a hand o' thine,
And we 'll tak a right guid-willie waught

For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne,
We'll take a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne!

"Haste ye back."
