A Methodology for Knowledge Discovery and Classification

Janis Terpenny, Stephen Strong, and Jiachuan Wang

This paper presents a methodology that has been developed to assist the discovery and capture of design knowledge. The Knowledge Capture Methodology (KCM) outlined in this paper provides clear steps to examine successful products, decompose knowledge, capture and classify needed information.

An example problem is included and demonstrates the steps and utility of the methodology. While this paper discusses the methodology within the context of a particular KBE engine, Apprentice System, KCM will assist the knowledge mining requirements for implementation of applications in any KBE system.

This paper talks about a methodology, which is reinforced by using a special set of Visio shapes. Best of all, applying the methodology helps you generate a custom Visio application automatically.
